REBUILD INDEX

The Rebuild Index function is available on the Maintain Web Site screen when Directory Indexing has been turned on for your site (see  below). This function builds or rebuilds indexes for directories that have been selected for indexing.

An index will be created within a directory that has been selected for indexing the first time content is published into that directory, or if you select Rebuild Index on the Maintain Web Site Screen. Thereafter, a new index is created each time you publish a new document to the directory, or you select Rebuild Index.

How to Turn On Indexing

Before you attempt to build/rebuild an index, make sure the following steps have been completed:

  1. Turn on Directory Indexing for your site by selecting "Yes" for the Maintain Directory Index Files option on the System Policies screen.
  2. Select each directory that is to be indexed by selecting the Maintain Index for this Directory flag on the Create Directory or Directory Properties screen.
  3. Select the Directory Index Template and the Directory Index File Name to be used for the index from the System Configuration screen.
For more information about Directory Indexing, see the Directory Indexing Tutorial .

Then, complete these steps:

  1. From the WebSite Director Application Desktop, select System Administration.
  2. On the System Administration screen, select Maintain Web Site
  3. On the Maintain Web Site screen, select the directory to be indexed from the Directories and Documents: list on the right side of the screen.
    • Make sure Directory Indexing has been selected for that directory. If you are not sure, highlight the directory's name in the Directories and Documents: list, then click Properties. Then look for the Maintain Index for this Directory option and make sure the checkbox by this option is checked.
  4. Click REBUILD INDEX.
    • WSD generates a new index for the selected directory.
