DIRECTORY USER PERMISSIONS

This screen allows you to identify specific WebSite Director Express (WSD) users who will ether be allowed to, or prevented from accessing and/or updating content in the directory displayed on the Directory Properties page.

Directory The directory path selected on the Directory Properties screen
Access Permissions

The Allow Access and Prevent Access lists determine who will and will not be allowed to "Access" (View) this directory and the content in this directory using WSD. Prevent Access applies only to users who have not been granted Access Control permission by the User Administrator.

Prevent Access - The users appearing in this list will NOT be allowed to view this directory or the content stored in this directory.  WSD users with "Access Control" permission (granted by their User Administrator) are still able to view ALL directories within WSD, even if they are placed in this list.

Allow Access - The users users appearing in this list will be allowed to view this directory and the content stored in this directory. WSD users with "Access Control" permission (granted by their User Administrator) are able to view ALL directories within WSD, even if they are not granted Access Permission on this screen.

Users must have Allow Access (or Access Control) permission if they are to be granted Update Permission (see below). Please make sure that all users allowed to update content are also in the Allow Access list, or have been granted Access Control permission by the User Administrator, as WSD does NOT check to see if the users in the "Allow Updates" list are also listed in the "Allow Access" list.

  • To move users from one list to the other, first select one or more users in a list and use the buttons with the directional arrows to move them to the other list.
Add new users to
These radio buttons -- Prevent Access and Allow Access -- allow you to set the THIS directory's Default Access Permissions. The default set here will apply to new users that will be added to WSD by the User Administrator.
Restrict Web Site Visitors to "Allow Access" List

When checked, the "Restrict Web Site Visitor Access to Allow Access list" forces regular web site visitors to be authenticated by WSD before they are allowed to access any content in this directory.  Visitors must provide a User Name associated with a member from the Allow Access list.

Note: When you check this option, you must provide a Login Prompt (see below).

Login Prompt The prompt that site visitors will see when they attempt to login to the directory. Cannot exceed 80 characters.
Update Permissions

 The Allow Updates and Prevent Updates lists determine who will and will not be allowed Update"  (Add/Modify/Delete) this directory and the content in this directory using WSD.

Prevent Updates - The users appearing in the list will NOT be allowed to update this directory or the content stored in this directory.

Allow Updates - Only those users appearing in this list will be allowed to update this directory and the content stored in this directory. 

  • Note: WSD does NOT check to see if the users in the "Allow Updates" list are also listed in the "Allow Access" list (see "Access Permissions" above). Please make sure that all users allowed to update content are also allowed to access content in this directory.

FUNCTIONS:
UPDATE Select this function to save the permissions added or changed on this screen and return to Directory Properties.
CANCEL

Select this function to return to the Directory Properties screen without saving changes.
