EditLive! EDITOR   
 
The EditLive! On-line WYSIWYG Editor allows users who are not familiar with HTML to create a document online.

Note: Before you can use the EditLive! WYSIWYG editor, you must go to your User Preferences screen and download EditLive! to your local computer. If Download EditLive! is not an option on your User Preferences screen, contact your Administrator. 

Once EditLive! is downloaded, you may select it on the Edit Document screen. The EditLive! editor window provides icons and help buttons at the top of the window to assist you in creating and editing your document.  Explanations of the WSD functions are provided below. 

VIEW SOURCE Allows you to view the HTML source for the document.
PREVIEW Displays the document in a browser window. 
UPDATE Saves the information entered in the WYSIWYG editor  window.
UPDATE AND RETURN Saves the information entered in the WYSIWYG editor window, and returns to the Edit Documents screen.
CANCEL Discards all additions/changes you have made to the document and returns you to the Edit Documents screen

How to Insert Images using the EditLive! WYSIWYG Editor  

The image tool located at the top of the EditLive! toolbar allows you to insert images into your document as follows: 
 
1. Position your cursor at the location in your document where you want to insert the image.
2. Click the Image tool in toolbar to display the Insert Image From window.
3. Select one of the following radio buttons, and following the associated descriptions below:
Remote Server:
  • Click Browse Server. EditLive! will open the image insert pop-up window containing either
    • the list of links to images in your images directory (if "Links" was selected in User Preferences), or
    • a list of the actual images (if "Inline was selected in User Preferences).
  • If the pop-up windows contains the list of links, select and click a link to display the image in the Image Insert window.
    • To deselect an image, right mouse click anywhere in the window and click "Back" to return to the list of links.
  • Drag the image displayed in the large window on the left to the small white area titled "Drag Image Here"
  • Click Insert Image on the Image Insert pop-up window to return to the Insert Image From window.
  • Using the radio buttons location in the area titled "Image Location" select either:
    • Use Relative URL - if you want the link to this image placed in your document to not contain the base URL portion (e.g. http://www.mycompany.com)
    • Use Absolute URL - if you want the link to this image placed in your document to contain the base URL portion.
  • If necessary, use the selection items located in the area titled "Layout" (alignment, border thickness, horizontal spacing, vertical spacing) to determine specific placement of the image relative to the surrounding text.
  • If necessary, use the selection items located in the area titled "Size" (specify size, width, height) to cause the image to be displayed at a specific width and height.
  • If necessary, use the data entry field in the area titled "Alternative Text" to enter descriptive information about your image to be displayed by the browser when the user positions the cursor over the image.
  • Click Insert Image in the Insert Imawindow to insert the image into your document.
Absolute URL:
  • Click Browse Server. EditLive! will open the image insert pop-up window containing either
    • the list of links to images in your images directory (if  "Links" was selected in User Preferences), or
    • a list of the actual images (if "Inline" was selected in User Preferences).
  • If you want to use one of the images from the list of images in the Image Insert pop-up window:
    • If the pop-up windows contains the list of links, select and click a link to display the image in the Image Insert window.
    • To deselect an image, right mouse click anywhere in the window and click "Back" to return to the list of links.
  • If you want to select an image from a page at another web site:
    • Type the URL of the site or page where you intend to locate the image in the lower left data entry box labeled "Enter URL"
    • Click Go!
      • The page you requested will replace the list of images previously displayed.
      • If the image you want to insert is not on the page displayed, use the links in the page to browse the site until you find the page that contains your image, or enter a new URL into the "Enter URL" data entry box and click Go! again. Note: Repeat this process until you locate the page that contains the image you want to insert in your document.
  • Drag the image you want to insert from the large window on the left to the small white area titled "Drag Image Here"
  • Click Insert Image on the Image Insert pop-up window to return to the Insert Image From window.
  • If necessary, use the selection items located in the area titled "Layout" (alignment, border thickness, horizontal spacing, vertical spacing) to determine specific placement of the image relative to the surrounding text.
  • If necessary, use the selection items located in the area titled "Size" (specify size, width, height) to cause the image to be displayed at a specific width and height.
