WEBSITE DIRECTOR DEFAULT EDITOR

The WebSite Director Express (WSD) Edit Online screen allows user to select ranges of text, images and/or tables, and then use the Define Region button to create an editable Region in the selected area.

The screen provides the following buttons:

Source Click this icon to view and edit the HTMLsource code for the documet. To define regions in the source code, you must insert the appropriate Template variables. For more information about Template attributes, click "Attribute Definitions" within the pop-up to display the Other Page Layout Template Command Attributes tutorial.
Define Region

Highlight a range of text, click on an image or within a table, then click the Define Region button. The Define Region pop-up window displays. This pop-up allows you to select variables for the Region. 

  • You may select and define more than one area on a document.
  • You may also double-click inside a defined region to bring up the Define Region screen that shows the existing parameters of the region, and allowing you to make changes to the region.

Remove Region

The editable regions on a page are identified by dashed blue borders. To remove a region, click on the border or somewhere inside the editable region (but not in the text itself), or on the border to select and re-display the region with drag handles. Then, click the Remove Region button.

The following WSD functions display at the bottom of the screen:

INFORMATION ON THIS SCREEN:
Save in web server standard text format

This checkbox displays if the document has not been previously updated via WSD, and is in a format other than the web server's standard text format. Select the checkbox before you click [Update] to save the document in the web server's standard text format, which displays in parentheses following the option,

  • (LF) for Unix servers or
  • CRLF) for Windows servers.

If you do not select this checkbox, the document will be saved in its current format.

Preview
  • For content, displays the content, including any header and footer, as it will appear when published.
  • For templates, displays the template HTML source code. See View Sample below.
Update Saves the information entered in the WYSIWYG editor window.
Update and Return Saves the information entered in the WYSIWYG editor window, and returns to the previous screen.
Cancel Discards all additions/changes you have made to the document and returns you to the previous screen
View Sample Only available when you are editing templates. Select this checkbox before you click Preview to display the template as it will appear when published.
