Windows NT Sites running the Domino Server About This Guide
This guide describes how to install WebSite Director (WSD)
for Windows NT Sites running the Domino Server. The sections in the Guide provide step-by-step instructions
for each part of the installation process.
| Important Note: The WSD Installation Program
must be executed from your web browser, as instructed in 4. Install WSD
below. The WSD Installation Program will not install correctly if run from the command line or via the
Windows "Run" option. |
AudienceThis
guide is for any person who intends to install WSD, and for anyone wanting to familiarize themselves with
the WSD installation and/or configuration process. The reader should have a reasonable familiarity with
web server terminology, and specific knowledge of Windows NT and your server.
The reader should also be familiar with directory structures
and the server's installation options.
Review this section carefully. If you are installing
WSD in an Internet Service Provider (ISP) environment, it may be necessary to contact their representative
to verify or alter some of these settings. References (like "Click the Groups Tab...") refer to the user
interface at the time this document was published. Your interface should be similar, but may not be identical.

ContentsThe
following outline provides links to all sections in this Installation Guide.
| 1. Choose Installation Directory |
| Locate the installation directory for your web
server, and write it as Item 4 on your Installation Worksheet.
Note that the Domino server ships with a preconfigured "cgi-bin"
directory, so WSD can be installed in a "wsd" directory below the "cgi-bin" directory (note the full path
of the WSD installation directory for use in the Configuration steps below). |
2. Create the Database
When you downloaded the WSD software, you chose either the
MySQL, mSQL or ODBC version of WSD. Depending on which you chose, you must either create a MySQL database,
an mSQL database, or define, select, and possibly create an ODBC data source.WSD will use the database/data
source for storing document information regarding the documents WSD is managing on your site. Please read
all of the instructions carefully for whichever type of database you are installing.
2a. ODBC You must define an ODBC data source for use by WSD. Depending on the type of data source you will
be using, you may have to create your database before you can configure your ODBC Data Source. While a
Microsoft Access database can be created while setting up the ODBC Data Source, other databases (like
a Microsoft SQL Server database, for example) must be created using the specific SQL Server's database
administration tools before the associated ODBC Data Source can be defined and created.
Some database servers (such as Microsoft SQL Server), require
you to specify the maximum size of the database as part of creating the database. If your database requires
you to estimate a size, use the following sizes for tables in the WSD database to calculate the correct
size for your database. Multiply the sizes given for each of the items below by estimates of the number
of corresponding documents and update volumes for your web site:
- System Configuration and User Data - 300K bytes (Fixed overhead)
- Directories on the web site - 1k bytes per directory (multiply
X estimated number of directories)
- Documents on the web site - 1k bytes per document (multiply
X estimated number of documents)
- Update requests and request history - 5k bytes per request
(multiply X estimated maximum number of document requests you will be archiving before you begin deleting
request activity history)
|

For Microsoft SQL databases you must select an existing database.
If Microsoft Access is being used, you could either create a new database or select an existing database |
| g. |
When finished configuring the Data Source, click OK
to exit the ODBC configuration program, then exit Control Panel |
Your ODBC data source is now ready for use by the WSD installation
process and WSD itself. |
2b. MySQL/mSQL You must create the database so that it can be initialized by WSD during installation. Until this
initialization takes place, you will be unable to complete the installation of WSD.
Note 1: The database server must be loaded and
running before you can create the database. If you did not set up the database server as an automatic
NT Service, make sure you have manually started the database server before you continue!
Note 2: If you have an existing WSD database
that you plan to use, do not complete the following instructions and select NO when prompted during
installation. See Database Information on your WSD Installation Planning Form.
To create a NEW WSD database you must you must execute the
DOS program named msqladmin.exe or mysqladmin.exe located in the database installation directory
(Worksheet Item 2).

the WSD Installation Program so that WSD can initialize the database.
|
3. Before You Install WSD Although WebSite Director 1.3 (WSD) will install and run properly on
a Domino Web Server, WSD is not yet able to directly manage the list of users authorized to access WSD.
Consequently, it is necessary to synchronize users between the Domino Web Server access control configuration
and WSD's User Administration screen.
To add an authenticated user to WSD, you must add an existing
Domino user to the access control list for WSD, or create a new Domino user. You must also add the
user to WSD using the WSD User Administration screen.
During the WSD installation process, you must specify an "Initial
User" that will be given administration privileges within WSD. Before installing WSD, you should
identify or create a Domino user that will be used as the WSD "Initial User".
To create a new Domino user,
- Start up the Lotus Domino Administrator.
- Select the "Peoples & Groups" tab.
- Click [Add Person].
Note: The user can be an existing Domino user, or you may create a new Domino user
to be the WSD "Initial User." |
4. Install WSD The following instructions will complete the installation of the WSD
software on your server. After you have completed this section, you must still complete Sections 5 through
7 before allowing your users to access WSD.
Important Note: The WSD Installation Program
must be executed from your web browser. The WSD Installation Program will not install correctly if run
from the command line or via the Windows "Run" option. Before you begin your installation of WSD, make sure the following are loaded and running:
- If you did not set up your Web Server as an automatic NT
Service, manually start the server before you continue. See your server's documentation for instructions
on how to manually start your server.
- If you did not set up your database server as an automatic
NT Service, make sure you have manually started the server before you continue.
- The Domino server ships with a preconfigured "cgi-bin" directory,
so WSD can be installed in a "wsd" directory below the "cgi-bin" directory (note the full path of the
WSD installation directory for use in the Configuration Authentication steps below).
