MAINTENANCE OVERVIEW
WebSite Director (WSD) allows you to maintain all directories under your server's "Working Directory." Your site's Working Directory is the root directory for the portion of your web server that WSD maintains. It is used to construct fully-qualified Universal Resource Locators (URLs) to the pages maintained by WSD.

For example,Private Directory If your company's content management process requires the segregation of certain documents for control by a separate group of individuals, your company may choose to create one or more Private Directories. Private Directories are defined during installation, and are only visible to users who have been given permission to access them (see Add New User or Edit User Info).
The directories under your document root directory are maintained via the Maintain Directories screen, accessed from the Application Desktop. This screen provides access all of the directory maintenance functions provided by WSD. The screen displays the the name of the currently selected directory and a scrollable list box containing subdirectories subordinate to the Current Directory. If you have the proper permissions, you may access the following functions from this screen: Directory Properties The Directory Properties screen allows you to view information about the directory, including the date and time the directory was last accessed and modified. For UNIX filesystems, you may also view the UID and GID information.If you have the proper permissions, you may change Read, Write and Execute permissions for the directory's Owner, Group and Other categories. Create Directory The Create Directory screen allows you to create a new directory. To do so, type the new directory name in the New Directory: data entry box on the Create Directory screen. You may also type the full directory path in addition to the new directory name in the New Directory: data entry box. This directory path will override the directory displayed in the Current Directory: box. The parent directory for the directory you are creating must already exist. Move or Rename Directory The Move Directory and Rename Directory screens allow you to maintain your web server's directory structure by moving or renaming directories. It also eliminates having to copy files one by one from one part of the server to another. To Move or Rename a directory, type the new path and/or directory name in the New Directory Name: data entry box. For example, to move the directory "/mydoc" from "/mysite/demo" to "/mysite/product", type "/mysite/product/mydoc" in the New Directory Name: data entry box. The directory path to which you are moving the selected directory must already exist. Copy Directory The Copy Directory screen allows you to create a new directory by copying an existing directory to a new directory. For example, to copy the directory "/mydoc" to "/newdoc", type "/newdoc" in the Destination Directory data entry box. Delete Directory The Delete Directory function allows you to delete a directory and all subdirectories and files subordinate to the directory. WSD requests that you confirm the delete request before deleting the directory. |
