How to Create/Edit a Page Layout Template

Introduction

WebSite Director (WSD) Page Layout Templates allow users with no knowledge of HTML to create web pages that have a pre-defined format.  These templates specify which portions of a document can be created/edited.

Document will be comprised of the HTML code defined by the template designer/developer and the content that the user enters into the specified template areas.  Page Layout Templates can contain WSD Template variables plus HTML, XML, and Dynamic Server-specific variables that are compatible with the installed environment.

WSD provides two types of on-line editing: WYSIWYG editors, and a browser-based HTML/Text Editor for those who are familiar with HTML code. You also have the option of uploading a template from your local computer, or downloading the template so you can use any third-party application to make your changes.

When a template is modified, it can be immediately applied to all applicable documents via the Apply Template function accessed from the Maintain Page Layout Templates screen.  If a field has been added to the template, it will appear empty in the documents, or it will contain any default data. If a field has been deleted, the old data is thrown away. See Apply Template.

This tutorial is intended for any WSD user who wishes to create a new, or edit an existing Page Layout Template. It contains the following sections:
